小刀, riding with the big boys.
Meet 小刀 – the Phua family’s kind of old and not very good looking electric bike.
On a whim, I decided to ride 小刀 to work and back today (“your poor butt”, someone said on twitter) and it was a rather exciting half an hour to 45 min.
Some questions that ran through my mind:
- Do I adhere to pedestrian rules or road rules?
- zomgzomgzomg am I going to get hit by a car?
- Where do I “park” 小刀???
So anyway I didn’t exactly plan my route well. I ended up being on the road sometimes, and waiting to cross the road at pedestrian crossings sometimes. Most of the time, cars aren’t too much of a problem but some don’t really adhere to the 1.5m rule and it’s rather harrowing to have them finely miss knocking you over.
I also locked 小刀 somewhere near POSB at Peninsula Plaza, and came down to find another security lock on my wheel (added security!) – so apparently I should “park” at the loading bay instead. Also the security guard told me “fine $200” and established that he was joking just before I flipped.
Back home now, safe and sound, with a slight sense of achievement.
But I’ll be driving to the studio.
