WHAAAT, you might ask, WHY WOULD I PAY TO CHOP OFF THE BALLS OF A MANLY TOM CAT?
WHY WOULD I PAY TO DENY THE RIGHTS OF A MOLLY TO HAVE KIDS?
WHY WOULD I PAY TO DEPRIVE THEM OF THE JOYS OF FORNICATION!
well to keep things short friends, it’s to save cats from being KILLED BY THE GOVERNMENT. *insert dramatic music*
If you haven’t heard of the Cat Welfare Society, it consists of passionate individuals who are proponents of saving cats through sterilization. Borrowing a paragraph from their website:
We realise that the only way to help alleviate suffering and to stop so many cats being killed is to go to the root cause of the problem — which is that of too many cats being born. In order to do this, we believe firmly in the need to focus on sterilisation.
To put it simply, the fewer cats born, the fewer cats suffer and die.
Sterilisation as a recognised practice continues to this day. As a result, the number of cats being put down has fallen to an average of 10,000 cats per year in the last decade. In 2009, that number was at an all-time low of 8000.
This is a clear indication of the effectiveness of current strategies in stabilising and reducing the stray population.
C’mon. Even Karen Mok supports their cause.
Our local celebrity cat Duke Orange will be matching 20% of proceeds that go to CWS in support of Spay Day 2011. In his words:
Last year, cat lovers in Singapore get VERY good news – that AVA going to introduce new programmme for stray cat. Instead of cull cat to manage population, now AVA work together with Cat Welfare Society for introduce TNRM programme. This mean Trap, Neuter, Release and Manage, which is much better than KILL!
